Moss Vale Community Garden would like to invite you to our open day on Saturday 10th June from 10am to celebrate WorldEnvironment Week.
Come along and check out the environmentally sound elements in the Garden including: solar power; systems for catching, storing and using rainwater;strawbale building and sustainable gardening practices like organic soil improvement and non-toxic pest control.
If you like getting your hands dirty:
we will be setting up a brand new ($60) worm farm we will be raffling for some lucky person to take home.
you can take part in helping build a “hot bed” into which we will plant some vege seeds which will rocket out of the warm soil despite the chilly winter weather.
And then there will be wood-fired pizzas for lunch…….

In November, well-known local chef, Geoff Jansz dropped in to see us at the community garden and brought a lovely spread of fresh food to share for lunch. Geoff has long been a vege grower, garden-to-plate chef and is in the process of developing his Bowral acreage as a community garden. He has a range of initiatives in the pipeline and being devotees of local food production, we hope to see some of these projects on the ground soon.
Geoff has promised to come back in 2017 and do a demonstration of his 3-Greens Dish, a particularly wholesome and delicious meal that is quick and easy. What more could you want from a meal?
After a short break over the Festive Season, the Railway Street Fresh Food & Produce Market resumes trading every Thursday from 3pm till 6pm right through to winter.
You will find locally grown aquaponic & certified organic produce, preserves made from local produce, Curly’s Compost, sourdough bread, patisserie-style pies and quiches, locally propagated seedlings and food plants grown by the Community Garden, local wines, fish, free-range eggs, Snax-on-Trax coffee van with delicious home-baked cakes & biscuits, Japanese pancakes and more. Be entertained by local musicians as you shop…..
Come and join us and help support our local growers to produce seasonal fresh food through sustainable farming methods.
In November 2016, with the support of our local Wingecarribee Shire Council Smartygrants, we organised our second cheese workshop for the year.
Our specialist cheesemaker, Nathan Burke, guided us through the process of making Halloumi, quarg and sour cream. After a shared lunch, we headed next door to the Community Garden to choose some tomato seedlings to take home and grow on. Mmmmmm…… Grilled Halloumi & tomato on toast.
As with most Christmas parties, our members enjoyed a table bulging with cold meats and fresh Garden salads, followed by a variety of desserts including cherries picked that very morning, berry pavlova (berries from the Garden so only “food metres” rather than “food miles”) washed down with locally brewed elderflower champagne, pink (rhubarb) champagne and fruit punch bearing golden & red raspberries, and cherries.
Don’t you just love the abundance of an organic garden, especially when your combined labours throughout the year, in all weathers, culminate in such a healthy and delicious celebration?
